Curiosity can take you in a lot of different directions in life. In my case, that’s asking questions like who, what, when, where, why, and what if, and then writing about what I find. The result is hundreds or articles and stories in publications ranging from niche biotech trade journals to science fiction pulp magazines. My background is in biochemistry, where I learned how the cellular machinery of the body works, but as a writer I’m lucky to be able to follow where my interests take me.
Over more than a quarter century of journalism, I’ve gained expertise in genetic engineering, cell and gene therapy, precision medicine, cancer, cardiology, COVID-19, pharmaceutical discovery and development, and more. In my fiction, I return often to consciousness, relationships, and the space between what is known and unknown, often from a whimsical angle.
The Serendipity blog is where these interests intersect. Some days, that will mean a unique angle or a deeper dive on something I’ve recently published. Others, you might get snippets from the cutting room floor, my thoughts on craft and the writing life, reprints of published fiction, or even a fully reported exclusive story.
